چکیده
Loranthus micranthus Linn. (Loranthaceae) is a botanically significant hemiparasite that grows on tree branches or trunks and used in traditional medicine. This study compares the antioxidant activity qualitative phytochemical screening of Nigerian South Africa Standard techniques for were deployed while thin layer chromatography (TLC) bio-autography was utilized to analyze antioxidants qualitatively. Quantitative analysis performed using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH); hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) free-radical scavenging; ferric chloride reducing power. The results revealed presence flavonoids; glycosides; saponins; phenolic compounds; phlobatannins; tannins; terpenoids. As potentials four extracts—i.e., dichloromethane (NGDCM); African (SADCM); methanol (NGMeOH); (SAMeOH)—the SADCM extract had more creamy bands compared Nigerian, thus indicating potentially compounds. A better complementary potential observed extracts over their counterparts. DPPH quantitative analyses underpin exhibited greater scavenging NGDCM, but this less than gallic acid control, with highest at concentration 0.2 mg/mL 0.4 mg/mL, respectively. However, as increased from 0.6 1.0 again dominated its all analytes. half maximal inhibitory (IC50) values obtained [SADCM = 0.31 NGDCM 0.51 SAMeOH NGMeO 0.17, 1.17 BHT 1.47 Mg/mL)]. Both H2O2 Fe3+ Fe2+ reduction assays mirrored similar trend analytes except BHT, which assay 0.2–06 mg/mL. Based facts gathered, it can be inferred are chemically equivalent. support morphology taxonomical classification, notwithstanding environmental, biological, edaphic impacts experienced by each plant.

DETERMINATION OF ANTI-FUNGAL PROPERTIES OF THE AFRICAN MISTLETOE SPECIES: Loranthus micranthus L
The anti-fungal activity of the leaves of African mistletoe plant used in traditional and folkloric medicine was studied using standard procedures. The methanolic extracts of mistletoe leaves harvested from three different host trees {Kola acuminata, Irvingia gabonensis and Persea americana} were tested against clinical isolates of some common pathogenic fungi {Candida albicans and Aspergillus ...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Possible Mechanisms of Antihypertensive Activity of Loranthus micranthus: An African Mistletoe
Loranthus micranthus (LM), also called African mistletoe is a major Nigerian Loranthaceae plant used traditionally to treat hypertension. The methanolic leaf extract of the plant (LMME) has been shown to elicit anti-hypertensive activity in rats but mechanism remains unclear. This study was undertaken to study the effect of LM on pressor-induced contraction of rat aorta smooth muscles and serum...

Loranthus micranthus Linn. is a medicinal plant from the Loranthaceae family commonly known as an eastern Nigeria species of the African mistletoe and is widely used in folkloric medicine to cure various ailments and diseases. It is semiparasitic plant because of growing on various host trees and shrubs and absorbing mineral nutrition and water from respective host. Hence, the phytochemicals an...
متن کاملImmunomodulatory activity of a lupane triterpenoid ester isolated from the eastern Nigeria mistletoe, Loranthus micranthus (Linn).
OBJECTIVE To provide further evidence for the ethnomedicinal use of the Eastern Nigeria mistletoe, Loranthus micranthus (L. micranthus), as an immunostimulant. METHODS Solvent fractions from the crude extract of the mistletoe plant was obtained and screened by the cell mediated delayed type hypersensitivity reaction (DTHR) model in mice. Then the immunomodulatory potentials of a major lupane ...
متن کاملBiochemical Changes in Wistar Rats on Oral Doses of Mistletoe (Loranthus micranthus)
Problem statement: To evaluate the effects of the water extract of the leaves of mistletoe (Loranthus micranthus) (traditionally used antidiabetic and antihypertensive) in male albino Wistar rats. Approach: The animals were divided into 4 groups (n = 6). Water extract of L. micranthus leaves was administered in graded doses of 0, 275, 551 and 827 mg kg body weight (wt) of experimental animals f...
